NOVEMBER 2024
It was a month of poaching on Kit Lake, my home water, in central Florida’s largemouth bass country. Businesses moved in on others they call “colleague”, short timers took tattoo ideas from others, and criminals sullied the boat ramp.
After the first jacket weather, the Fly Tech was prepared with two outfits. In the mist covered shallows near the Yellow Poinciana tree, she caught two-year-old bass that were taking everything, like two-year-olds will. When the blanket of sunlight covered into the lake, she shifted to deeper water and a stronger rod, then used gummy minnow flies to fool individual bass who were energetically chasing schools of fry.
Bluegill City has been scraped like an orange grove prepped by a developer moving in from out of state. The fish residents scattered and have yet to move back in. So, we fished around the lake and found small bluegill cutting their teeth by attacking our grass shrimp flies.
Crappie grew eager to strike sinking flies dropped slow and deep near islands of lily pads in water about 7 feet deep.
And Carp were more active. Anglers with time to kill cast pellet lures in their area with hopes for the big pull.
Change is scheduled, and it’s in the air, and it’s on the calendar. We will get out and fish and see what they send us.
