DECEMBER 2025

It was a month of differences on Kit Lake, my home water in central Florida’s largemouth bass country. We worked around unusual conditions. Neighbors gave us flowing water. And we found bass using different flies.

Due to still dropping water, fog, wind, and deep structure offered new hunting grounds this month.

At the start of the month, anglers who could wait until later morning hours found top water fishing. When the colder air, different than the still warmer water, set off the feeding cycle under low fog. Earnie did well with small rods and trout nymphs like a bass zebra midge.

Another fishy spot was gifted by Mr. Penda’s boat maintenance. He ran water onto his pontoon-party-craft. The overflow ran into the lake, providing a temporary habitat where Ethel found bluegill.

Dropper anglers put away their poppers and changed to straight wet flies. New differences in The Channel allowed our newest cat-dad success with OB’s Grassy Whistler on a 6 weight rod. Casting toward the warming south-facing shore, he hit just the right spot between drying lily pad stems, waited for a vertical presentation, and met a nice strong bass. George hauled in another nice bass by switching between rods outfitted with a noisy popper and a light colored streamer.

Different situations came our way in December, so we progressed well enough to have success. Next month some factors will stay the same and some will change. We will be ready with our rods and our enthusiasm for the Beautiful Addiction.
