SEPTEMBER 2026

It was a month of blame on Kit Lake, my home water in central Florida’s largemouth bass country. Financiers blamed operators. Long names blamed funny names. And anglers blamed rough weather for rough fishing.

Our water was still low, but new areas to search were recovered with the return of Dinner and a Show thunderstorms. These beauties of nature drove anglers off the lake, and ponds, (and yards) from around 4:00pm. But Mike, a visiting angler from out of state was happy to sit on a back porch and watch the lightning play against the clouds.

Bass were in the shallows before sunrise. Kia was able to take a couple large bass, before the sunrise by presenting black and white streamers, like epoxy minnows, over The Peninsula. Once the sun rose, bass went offshore. Patient anglers could cast to pops approximately 80 feet from shore.

Bluegill were more active throughout our mornings. At Bluegill City, anglers moved inside of the first layer of lily pads, then cast trout nymphs to pockets and bays. Bluegill chased down these trout flies presented like bait fish.

In this tough fishing month, we gathered together. Now that summer is showing signs of ending, next month will surely bring changes, we need to be ready.
